New weather data for energy calculations
States that HVAC systems must counteract weather forces when outdoor temperature or humidity moves away from an acceptable range for safety and comfort. Consequently, a clear understanding of weather behaviour is helpful for system designers and operators. Reports that organisations such as ASHRAE, the US Department of Defense and industry-funded research institutions have recently invested over $1M in engineering weather data research. Describes some of the products of that research touching on peak load data, peak loads for extended periods, hourly data for troubleshooting and analysis, and understanding weather and climate dynamics. Presents table displaying common types and sources of engineering weather data.
